Bachman Wins Season opener!
Hurricane wins Season Opener, 2012 season opener Brings familiar face to victory lane!
Welcome fans to the 2012 season, the ISRL guys were off and running this weekend with an absolute great night of racing. Early on it was “Dyno” Dean Waltman setting the pace with a fast time of 13.818 followed by defending champ Jasen Skyberg 13.820, Bob Bachman 13.863, Kevin Detweiler 13.959, Bruce Gillogly 14.109. In the B-heat it was 77 year-old Dick Sola taking the win. Dick Sola, Randy Sellars and Rex Reeve battled for the win before Mr. Sola closed out the deal and captured the win. Way to go Dick Sola! The A-heat proved to be a small sample of what was to come in the main event with Gillogly, Bachman, Waltman, Skyberg and Detweiler battling it out with some wheel to wheel racing, with smoke and rubber flying. Going into the last corner, Gillogly was able to hold off an attempt by Bachman going into turn three when contact was made. Waltman lurking in third was able to capitalize on the action and passed Bachman at the start finish line for second place, followed by Skyberg and Detweiler. The main event was 30 laps of non-stop racing action as the top five cars battled through the 30 laps bumper to bumper and wheel to wheel. Gillogly took the early lead with Bachman, Skyberg, Waltman and Detweiler bumper to bumper. Bachman spent most of the first 18 laps trying to get to the outside of the race leader Bruce Gillogly, but Gillogly fought off the challenge of the 4-time ISRL Champion with Skyberg, Waltman and 2nd year Driver Kevin Detweiler swapping positions trying to find their own way to the front around Gillogly and Bachman. The caution came out with 12 laps to go, setting up a cone restart. Bachman was going to the outside of Gillogly, and he drove the car deep into turn one and made the pass for the lead, while 2011 champion Jasen Skyberg fought his way around Gillogly and set out to run down Bachman for the win. Skyberg caught Bachman behind a lapped car on the final lap but Bachman was able to hold on and get the win in an exciting season opener. Good job Bob Bachman! Main finish: Bachman, Skyberg, Gillogly, Waltman, Detweiler,Ortiz,Graybeal, Reeve, Sola, D. Skyberg, Waswick, Sellars. Also congrats to Dave Skyberg on winning the best looking car award! See you in Twin Falls on May 5th.

2011 Championship Banquet! December 10th.
The championship banquet will be on December 10th in Kuna at the community center. It will be catered by Big Daddy BBQ. Social Hour 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. Dinner 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Awards to follow. Burke Captures first Main Event win since 2001!
Long time ISRL veteran driver Travis Burke found his way back to victory circle! Travis set the tone early in hot laps showing he was going to be a force to be reckoned with later in the night. 2011 points leader Jasen Skyberg struggled all night with his new ride, allowing Burke and Reeve to close the point’s gap. Bruce Gillogly, driving Bob Bachman’s number 2 car, captured quick time and broke his car owner’s track record! In the A-heat it was a show-down between points leader Skyberg and Gillogly, side by side at the checkered flag with Skyberg coming out on top followed by Graybeal! In the B-heat it was Waswick, Kyle Waner and Ortiz! In the feature event, Travis drove his way from third quick to the front with a late race pass on Kyle Waner for the lead and never looked back. Travis cruised to victory followed by Kyle Waner and Reeve!
This was our mid-season Championship, so the point’s leader Jasen Skyberg gave up his number 20 car for a mandatory mid-season tear down. The 20 car was found to be legal! Also, the cam shaft and upper end valve train on the number 2 car was checked and found to be legal! See ya at Meridian Speedway this Saturday night for more SPI ISRL action!
